On January 22, 1993 the victim traveled to the Barrington Oaks neighborhood to purchase crack cocaine.  When he arrived in the apartment complex he approached Courtney Davis and four associates of Davis.

According to witnesses the victim asked the group if he could buy a twenty dollar rock of crack from any one of them.  One account by a witness was that a member of the group pulled a gun on the victim and attempted to rob him.  when the victim tried to run he was attacked by the group and beaten and shot several times.  Another account by a separate witness stated that one one in the group was willing to sell the victim any crack and he persisted when angered one of the group and they beat and shot him.

After the victim was beaten and lying on the ground, one of the group told the others to "chill out"  and Courtney Davis then shot the victim in the head.  After the victim was shot the group ran from the scene.  The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died as a result of severe beating and several gun shot wounds.

Davis was later charged and pled to Second Degree Murder.  He was sentenced to fifty years in prison for his involvement.
