Crime Story
On September 2, 1994, Reggie Lamont Cannon was on the street corner at 3301 Tennessee Avenue. Cannon and a friend had possession of a control substance with intent to sell. The victim drove down Tennessee Avenue with the intent to purchase drugs from either Cannon or his friend. Cannon's friend proceeded to see the victim a counterfeit rock of cocaine for $75. Cannon and his friend started to walk down the street in the direction of a pathway. The victim realized that the rock was counterfeit and started yelling at the two men to stop and give him his money back.

Both Cannon and his friend ran down the path toward a white church. At the same time the victim followed both men (in his car) to the path near the church. At this time Cannon was on Tennessee Avenue running around the corner of the church. The victim was driving his car and cut Cannon off as he ran around the corner of the church. Cannon pulled out a 9mm black gun and started shooting at the victim (one witness said he heard 5 - 6 shots). The victim got out of his car in an attempt to defend himself, realizing he could not do so; he turned to get back into his car.

The defendant Reggie Cannon continued to fire until he shot the victim in his back. The victim stumbled into the passenger side of his car and attempted to drive his car, but was unable to do so. The victim was found dead near his car at the church.

At this point Cannon walked to his house on Kentucky Avenue. Once inside the house cannon stated to his friend, "He did not care if the man was dead, because that way he could not come get him."  Cannon then ran up the stairs of his home and hold his friend that if anyone came looking for him that were to say, "He is not here."

The police arrived and found Cannon hiding in an upstairs closet. The police also found the 9mm gun in a closet. One witness statement admitted that Cannon had been walking around the neighborhood with the gun in recent days saying he wanted to shoot someone.

Cannon pled guilt to second degree murder and received LIFE.
