Seniors in Motion

CATS. It's My Independence.
As an active senior you don't have any intention of slowing down. Whether it's working out several times a week, meeting friends for lunch, or volunteering at church, riding CATS provides you with the mobility and freedom to help maintain your active lifestyle. With so much to do, riding CATS is just the sensible choice.  CATS' goes uptown, across town and around your neighborhood, so you don't have the added stress of driving.  Plus, since seniors ride for half price, it's a bargain!

Public transportation can play an important role in keeping older Americans mobile and independent.  Not sure how to ride CATS? Then let us introduce you to our  Seniors in Motion Program.  Through Seniors in Motion, CATS staff can visit your residential facility, church group or senior center and introduce our services to you.  We can take you on a demonstration ride, assist you with reading public timetables, and even make your Transit ID on the spot.

To arrange for a staff member to visit your facility, please contact us at
704-336-RIDE (7433) or click here to send us an e-mail, and we'll contact you to arrange a Seniors in Motion event.

Transit ID's

If you have a red, white and blue Medicare card, you may ride CATS at half price.

When you get on the bus, just show your Transit ID or Medicare card to the driver, put your money (one half of the regular fare) in the fare box and have a seat.

The LYNX Blue Line operates as a proof of payment system.  If you're riding the LYNX Blue Line you may purchase your ticket from one of our ticket vending machines.  Seniors purchasing their ticket at the reduced rate must provide a valid Transit ID or Medicare card upon request.

Enjoy Your Ride

CATS buses, LYNX light rail trains and stations are ADA accessible.  Priority seating for seniors is available on all CATS and LYNX vehicles, so you should not have to stand or walk to the back.

When riding CATS bus service, signal for the bus to stop about a block before you want to get off, by pulling the cord or pressing the strip by the window.  Ask the operator to lower the lift or step when you exit the bus.

When riding the LYNX Blue Line, the train will stop at all LYNX stations.  Look and listen for announcements of each train's arrival and destination.
