Refined Goals and Objectives 

Land-Use Goals

  • Coordinate land use, transportation and design to support the transition to a more compact, pedestrian-oriented, urban community.

Land-Use Objectives

  • Locate stations to sustain existing neighborhoods and maximize development and redevelopment opportunities.
  • Foster the redevelopment of abandoned/deteriorated industrial sites as mixed-use, transit-oriented centers.
  • Support the improvement of older neighborhoods and provide multi-point access between mixed-use centers and neighborhoods.
  • Support the continued development of the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport terminal/core area as an activity center.
  • Promote development and redevelopment that will support airport-related employment centers.
  • Support development of a mixture of uses around stations that will improve employment, service and shopping opportunities for corridor residents.

Mobility Goal

  • Improve access and mobility in the corridor and throughout the region.

Mobility Objectives

  • Improve access to existing and future employment in the corridor.
  • Improve connections to activity centers or hubs in the region.
  • Provide connectivity for commuters from Gaston County.
  • Provide a transit system that is a competitive alternative to driving an automobile.
  • Improve pedestrian access and safety between transit and nearby destinations.
  • Increase accessibility to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport for airline passengers and employees from throughout the region.
  • Provide convenient and accessible transit service.

Environmental Goal

  • Preserve and protect the environment.

Environmental Objectives

  • Minimize disruption to communities, natural resources and cultural resources.
  • Improve air and water quality, and use land efficiently.
  • Recognize noise-sensitive zones related to the airport by restricting development of new incompatible uses.
  • Create positive visual impacts through good design and quality development

Financial Goal

  • Provide effective and efficient transit options.

Financial Objectives

  • Maximize cost-effectiveness and operating efficiency.
  • Attract federal and state funds to facilitate implementation.
  • Maximize opportunities to leverage other funding sources.

System Integration Goal

  • Develop alignment and technology solutions that not only meet corridor goals and objectives, but further the development of an integrated regional transportation system.

System Integration Objectives

  • Provide easy connections to other corridors and transit options to create a seamless transportation system.
  • Create a system that can expand to meet growing demands.
  • Serve regional trips as well as trips within the corridor.
