Project Description

The proposed North Corridor commuter rail project will operate along 30 miles of the existing Norfolk Southern rail line (the "O" line) from Center City Charlotte to Mooresville in southern Iredell County.  The alignment parallels Graham Street in the south and Old Statesville Road (NC-115) in the north.

The North Corridor commuter rail project is being planned in two phases and is projected to have more than 4,500 riders daily in the first phase.  Initial service focuses on the rush-hour commuter with 16 daily commuter trains operating in one direction (rush direction) at a time.  Project costs are estimated to be around $260 million dollars, plus the costs of the Charlotte Gateway Station.   A combination of local, state, and private funds are proposed to fund the project.
