HUNTERSVILLE-GATEWAY PARK AND RIDE

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) opened its first park and ride lot in March 2004 in the Town of Huntersville. The Huntersville-Gateway Park and Ride is located on Compass Drive, just northeast of the interchange at Interstate 77 and Gilead Road (Exit 23). The 2.5 acre site has 209 parking stalls and includes a driver restroom, covered and secure bicycle parking, passenger shelters, and lighting. As with other CATS transit facilities, a public art element is integrated into the facility.

- The facility provides Huntersville commuters with express bus services and connections to local buses and other CATS services
- Providing a safe and comfortable facility to use and transfer on CATS route 48X and 77X
- North Mecklenburg routes 48X and 77X has approximately 20,000 riders per month, the highest ridership of all express routes in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County
- On-site surveillance and lighting incorporated into the design of the facility
- A steel art sculpture is placed in front of the bus operators' comfort station in the parking lot
