Be Alert, Be Informed, Be Involved and Be Prepared

Your safety and security is a top priority at the Charlotte Area Transit System.  We're working hard to create a safe and secure environment and riding experience for you by stepping up security in all areas of operations.

We have taken steps to ensure the safety and security of our transit system such as:

• Installing cameras on all buses in our fleet, park and ride lots, transit facilities and garages.
• Conducting emergency evacuation exercises.
• Increasing staffing and visibility at the Charlotte Transportation Center.
• Making extra patrols and sweeps around the facility and monitoring the remote video camera system.

In addition, CATS is involved in the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Transit Watch program as well as Crime Stoppers that encourages our customers to be active participants in security matters.  We have also formed a partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, as well as local, state and federal agencies to provide the highest level of security for you.

CATS has and continues to take steps to improve and enhance its safety and security. While we are working to keep you safe, we ask that you do the same.  There are simple safety measures you can take while at transit facilities, park and ride lots and while riding CATS to keep you and other riders, especially young riders, safe.            

You are a vital part of our Safety and Security Team and we rely on you to be our "eyes and ears."  By practicing a few safety measures such as waiting in well-lit areas, being aware of your surroundings and notifying CATS' security in the event of an emergency, you will be able to help prevent crime. As customers, we want you to remember to be alert, be informed, be involved and be prepared.
