The LYNX Blue Line, Charlotte's first light rail line, is scheduled to begin service November 2007. CATS commissioned 13 artists in 2003 and 2004 to integrate art into the transit projects along the 9.6-mile line. As construction continues over the upcoming year, fabrication and installation of art projects will be completed at each of the 15 stations and along the corridor.

Midtown Transit Enhancements
Susan Harbage Page – Chapel Hill, NC
Susan Page is collaborating with the project team to integrate art into the passenger shelters for the Midtown Transit Enhancements project. Midtown Square Mall, formerly located at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and King Street, was recently demolished to make way for a new 26.6 acre mixed-used project that will complement the future Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Transit enhancements include the design and installation of four "district-specific" passenger shelters.
The artist's concept or the passenger shelters is based on family photographs from Cherry neighborhood residents, the community directly adjacent to the future development. Four images selected from the albums will be enlarged to fill the frame of the shelter glass. Each shelter will feature a unique image; individuals appearing in the photographs will be identified in text on the shelter glass. All four shelters will feature a unifying cherry tree design on the side glass panel.
Expected Completion: Fall 2007/Spring 2008
