More Parking Spaces On The Way
Route 48x Huntersville Express
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is pleased to inform the customers of the 48X Huntersville Express that additional parking spaces are on the way for the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride. On November 10, CATS staff will be asking the Charlotte City Council to approve the purchase of 1.03 acres of land adjacent to the current park and ride lot.
This will provide 90 additional parking spaces to the lot that is already overflowing each day with commuters. Ridership on the 48X Huntersville Gateway Express grew 49.2 percent from September 2007 to September 2008.
The expansion project is in design and should be ready to submit for permitting in 4-6 weeks. Following approval of construction drawings, the project will go out for bid shortly thereafter. Construction will not be a lengthy process, but at this time of year can be delayed by wet weather or temperatures too low for laying asphalt. The parking lot expansion is scheduled to be complete in Spring 2009.
We want to thank the riders of the 48X Huntersville Gateway Express for being loyal transit customers and continuing to ride CATS as we work hard to accommodate additional parking needs.
