Sorry For the Inconvenience
As many of you have experienced, CATS buses are filling up rapidly as gas prices continue to skyrocket to a national average of over $4 a gallon. You may experience standing-room-only buses/trains and park and ride lots that are full. CATS is diligently working to address the concerns of rapidly increasing ridership.
Sixteen new buses are scheduled to arrive in February 2009 and five more in March. This will help increase our capacity for ridership as well as help provide an additional 29,000 hours of service planned across the bus system over the next 12 months.
The arrival of the new buses was scheduled for September 2008 but CATS put the order on hold until after the community voted on the referendum to repeal the half cent sales tax in November 2007. Although the vote was 70 percent in favor of retaining the dedicated funding for public transportation, it would not have been a wise use of tax dollars to order more buses not knowing the future of CATS dedicated funding source.
What can you do to ease crowding on buses and at the park and ride lots?
• Take a neighborhood shuttle to the nearest
park and ride and leave your car at home
• Travel at off peak times if possible
• Carpool to a park and ride with a friend or neighbor
• Move over and make room for other passengers to sit down
• If the closest park and ride is full, travel to the next available lot with spaces - visit
www.ridetransit.org to find bus and rail park and ride locations
Remember to park only in CATS designated park and ride lots.
Parking in undesignated spaces or spaces of adjacent businesses can result in your vehicle being towed. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you riding CATS.
