Rider's Alert

LYNX Blue Line

STUDENT TICKET CLARIFICATION & COURTESY WARNING

CATS has a reduced fare available for students/youth who are in the K-12 school range ONLY.  To receive the reduced fare the student/youth must have a valid school or transit ID, Transit IDs are available for $1.00 at the Charlotte Transportation Center, M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. along with proper identification. Call 704-336-RIDE or visit www.ridetransit.org for more information.  The student/youth reduced fare has been a policy of CATS for more than a decade.  Anyone in possession of a Student/Youth ticket without a valid ID can be subject to a $50 citation.

With the introduction of the LYNX line more students from higher learning institutions are riding public transportation for the first time in the Charlotte region. There has been some confusion with these new customers and some college age students have been purchasing the reduced fare when they were not eligible. Please be advised that Fare Inspectors will be issuing $50 citations starting March 3, 2008 to anyone using the Student/Youth ticket without proper identification or who does not appear to be of the K-12 school age.

CATS has a University Pass program where local universities and colleges sell CATS passes on campus for a discount. If you attend one of these institutions please contact your school to learn more about purchasing such a university pass.  If your school does not participate, have your institution contact CATS to learn more about how they can be part CATS’ University program.

Practice Safety While Waiting For A Train

•    Always stand behind the textured warning strips.

•    Don’t stand on/near the tracks.  Trains have an overhang and may still hit you even if you are not on the track.

•    Never step in front of a train. There is no need to step in front of the rail vehicle or flag it down.  The vehicle will only stop at designated stops.

•    Keep away from all overhead wires that power trains.  These high voltage wires will cause serious injury.

Safety Is CATS’ #1 Priority

•    Cameras record activities at each LYNX station and on every train.

•    Emergency call boxes and buttons are located at every station and on each LYNX train.

•    Every LYNX platform will be patrolled by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
