NEW PARKING SIGN ASSISTS COMMUTERS AT I-485 TRANSIT STATION

Charlotte, N.C., August 26, 2009 - Commuters using the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) LYNX Blue Line now have an easier way to find parking spaces at the I-485/South Boulevard transit station.  A new electronic sign at the entrance to this parking facility lets transit customers know just how many parking spaces are left.

“The parking sign lets you know how many spaces are available in the parking deck that also includes the overflow lot, and Lot A located in the front of the park and ride” said James Winslow, CATS Technology.  “This will save commuters time as they will no longer have to circle searching for a possible space; the electronic sign lets them know where to park.”  If the sign reads “Full” for both lots at I-485/South Boulevard, then customers need to drive north to the next available park and ride.

In addition to the new signs at the I-485/South Boulevard Park and Ride, commuters will notice a new traffic flow when entering the site.  To enter the overflow lot, you must now enter into the parking deck and take a right.  “This provides additional safety for our customers and does not allow vehicles to enter into the same pathway as CATS buses,” Winslow said.
