CATS EXTENDS GOLD RUSH HOURS
FOR NATIONAL SQUARE DANCE CONVENTION

Charlotte, N.C., June 22, 2007 - The suit and tie look that is a familiar sight in Center City Charlotte will be replaced by cowboy boots, bell skirts and ten-gallon hats when the 56th Annual National Square Dance Convention converges in Uptown from June 27-30.   With more than 10,000 people expected to attend the event held at the Charlotte Convention Center, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is extending the hours of its Gold Rush service to make getting around Center City easier for visitors to get to hotels, shopping, and dining.

The Red Line, which loops down Trade Street to McDowell Street onto Fourth Street up College Street and back onto Trade, will run from 6:45 a.m. until midnight on Wednesday, June 27-Friday, June 29, and from 10 a.m. until midnight on Saturday, June 30.

The Orange Line will run two separate services during the convention - its regular daytime route, which will operate from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., and an extended evening route, which will operate from 6 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, June 27-Friday, June 29, and from 10 a.m. until midnight on Saturday, June 30.  The daytime route will loop around from Morehead Street to Jefferson Street to Carson Street up South Tryon and back around via 10th Street to Church Street to Ninth Street.  The evening route will circle around South Tryon to College Street onto Sixth Street and back around.

"By extending the hours of the Gold Rush service, convention goers can travel with ease and convenience to hotels and restaurants throughout Center City," said Jim Zingale, CATS' Chief Operating Officer.  "We also have many local routes that provide transportation service near several hotels and shopping areas outside of Center City."
