CATS TAKES RACE FANS DIRECTLY TO THE ACTION
Lowe's Motor Speedway Race Express returns with expanded service area
Charlotte, N.C., May 4, 2007- With race season in high gear, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is teaming up with Lowe’s Motor Speedway once again to make getting to and from the speedway easier for race fans with the return of the Lowe's Motor Speedway (LMS) Race Express. “We launched this service in October 2006 on a trial basis and after the tremendous response we received from customers we decided to bring it back again this year,” said Jim Zingale, CATS' Chief Operating Officer. “It’s a quick, hassle-free way for race fans to get to the speedway.” The inaugural service carried 490 customers in October.
The LMS Race Express will operate from park and ride lots at Carolina Place Mall and Northlake Mall to Lowe's Motor Speedway for two races in May and one race in October. The race dates are Saturday, May 19 for the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge, Sunday May 27 for the Coca-Cola 600 and Saturday, October 13 for the Bank of America 500.
The LMS Race Express will utilize priority routes to enter and exit the speedway. For the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge on Saturday, May 19, buses will depart from each park and ride location approximately every 30 minutes between noon and 4 p.m. For the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 27, buses will leave approximately every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both drop-off and pick-up locations at Lowe's Motor Speedway will be near the track’s main entrance. Return trips will begin approximately one hour following the checkered flag.
Bus passes for the service are $20 round-trip per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Charlotte Transportation Center, located at 310 East Trade Street in Center City. Customers can also purchase tickets online at www.racepackage.com or by calling the Lowe’s Motor Speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS. Tickets will also be available at the park and ride lots on the day of the races.
