MTC HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED FARE INCREASE
Charlotte, N.C., January 25, 2007 ─ The Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), Charlotte Area Transit System's (CATS) governing board, will hold a public hearing on February 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. to give citizens the opportunity to voice their opinions about the proposed July 2, 2007 fare increase. The hearing will be held at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 East Fourth St., in Room 267.
This fare increase is in accordance with CATS' Fare Policy that was adopted by the MTC in 2001. The policy calls for an increase in fare every two years in small increments consistent with the rate of inflation.
"The fare increase allows us to continue to provide this community with a variety of affordable transportation choices," said Ron Tober, CATS' Chief Executive Officer. "With the increases we've been able to expand service areas and frequency, open new park and ride lots and better prepare for future growth."
Under the proposed fare increase, local and express fares will increase by 10 cents, from $1.20 to $1.30 and from $1.65 to $1.75, respectively. Express Plus and STS will increase by 20 cents from $2.40 to $2.60 and from $1.80 to $2.00, respectively. For a complete list of the proposed fares visit www.ridetransit.org or call (704) 336-RIDE.
