Motobridge
Motorola MOTOBRIDGE IP is an IP-based radio interoperability system. The system allows dynamic statewide, regional, and local radio interconnections (Trunked and Conventional) for public-safety first responder forces and allows network dispatchers to access and control patches to each and every network connected via MOTOBRIDGE IP gateways.

The Motorola MOTOBRIDGE IP system allows for instant interoperability in communcations between Mecklenburg, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lancaster, Lincoln, Stanly, Union and York counties.  The communications provided by this system will greatly increase the effectiveness of First Responders of all agencies involved.

Base installation of the eleven counties was completed in 2007.  The system continues to expand and new uses will evolve out of the infrastructure being tested and used by its owners.

Union County 800 MHz radio system operations
Union County has requested that Network Technology Services maintain and operate a new 800 MHz Public Safety radio system scheduled to be constructed in 2008-2009 for Union County.  Union's system will be tied to the Charlotte/Mecklenburg 800 MHz system and will facilitate interoperability and communications between area Public Safety/First Responder agencies as they travel between the two counties.

The interlocal agreement between Charlotte/Mecklenburg and Union County has been approved.  The Union County infrastructure build has begun.

Electonic equipment installation/removal RFP
An RFP for the installation and removal of electronic equipment in vehicles has been posted, received, and a contract will be awarded before the end of April 2008.  The City Shop will no longer be providing any installation/removal services and will serve only as the Contract Monitor.

800 MHz Radio System rebanding
The FCC has issued an order to reorganize radio frequencies which the Public Safety/First Responder radio systems operate.  This effort requires extensive coordination and upgrading of municipal, state, and federal radio systems.

Charlotte/Mecklenburg will begin its "rebanding" process in Mid 2008.  The overall project scope is slated between 24 and 36 months and will require upgrades to 13,000 subscriber radios and to the network infrastructure.
