MECKLENBURG COUNTY SEEKS TO RECOVER TAXPAYER DOLLARS IN LAWSUIT AGAINST TIME WARNER CABLE
Seeking to recover funds on behalf of the taxpayers, attorneys for Mecklenburg County have filed a lawsuit against cable television provider Time Warner. The lawsuit, filed June 22, 2005 in Mecklenburg County civil court, also seeks to require Time Warner to install the cable infrastructure promised to the County by Time-Warner and its predecessor.

TIME WARNER AND COMCAST SEEK TO ACQUIRE ADELPHIA
Time Warner, Inc. and Comcast Corporation recently announced the joint acquisition of Adelphia Communications Corporation. Time Warner Cable and Comcast will each acquire a portion of Adelphia's cable television systems representing approximately 5 million cable customers.

NON - PROFIT PUBLIC ACCESS CORPORATION
The Non-Profit Public Access Corporation, Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Access Corporation (CMPAC), is charged with providing quality Public Access to subscribers. Programs cablecast by the CMPAC can be viewed locally on TVAccess21. Workshops on the basics of production and editing are also provided to residents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg free of charge. Located at 613 Calvert Street - Charlotte, NC 28208 - the CMPAC can be reached by calling 704.377.8988.
The Office of Cable & Franchise Management (OCFM) recently reviewed issues raised by citizens regarding the access for people with disabilities to CMPAC facilities. The OCFM's facilities' accessibility review resulted in a detailed report that included City staff recommendations for ensuring that the CMPAC's facilities are ADA compliant.

The OCFM has forwarded a letter to the CMPAC reflecting these recommendations and requesting corrective actions – with a written response - which was received August 31, 2004. The OCFM continues to work with the CMPAC to address any issues affecting public access in the Charlotte community.
