County Government Week
The Board proclaimed May 3 – 9 as National County Government Week in Mecklenburg County to raise awareness of the roles and responsibilities of counties throughout the nation.  Learn more about Mecklenburg County’s responsibilities, services and results.

 

 

Manager’s Report – Committee of 21 Report
The Board received a report from the Committee of 21, which was established by the City, County and Charlotte Chamber to identify Mecklenburg County’s road needs and provide recommendations on funding options to address these needs.

 

Manager’s Report – Budget Update
The Board received an update from County Manager Harry Jones on the development of the County Manager’s Recommended Budget for next fiscal year.  The report included:

  • Update on Law Enforcement Service District tax rate
  • Update on federal stimulus funds for CMS
  • Funding recommendation for Public Square
  • Update on budget schedule

 

Child Fatality Team Report
The Board received the annual report of the Mecklenburg County Child Fatality Prevention and Protection Team. This team, comprised of representatives from various agencies throughout the community, reviews each child death in Mecklenburg County to understand the causes of these deaths and recommend steps to address these causes to prevent future child deaths.

 

Storm Water Fee Public Hearings
As part of its consent agenda, the Board scheduled public hearings for May 19 on proposed changes to the storm water fees for Mecklenburg County, City of Charlotte and Town of Davidson.  The hearings will be held in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center as part of the Board’s May 19 regular meeting that begins at 6 p.m.

 

Solid Waste Management Plan
The Board approved revisions to the Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Management Plan. State law requires a 10-year plan that is revised at least every three years.  The previous revision occurred in 2006.  This year’s revision includes the participation of the Town of Matthews for the first time. All the other Mecklenburg municipalities remain as participants in this plan that sets goals for waste reduction and recycling.
