Neil Cooksey is a Republican elected to his first term on the Board.

Commissioner Cooksey has been a resident of Charlotte's South Park community for more than 20 years.  He has three children, all in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system.  He is a longtime member of Carmel Presbyterian Church and has served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday school teacher there.  He has been active in youth sports, has served in leadership positions in the United Way, Y-Guides and Boy Scouts, and formerly served as chairman of the board of directors of Seigle Avenue Preschool Cooperative. 

Commissioner Cooksey graduated from Davidson College with a degree in political science and from the University of Michigan Law School.  He currently works as in-house counsel for Akima Management Services, Inc., a leading provider of contract services for the Federal government.
