Charlotte, NC –Mecklenburg County government television continues breaking ground.
For the first time since the County began producing television shows more than decade ago, two County television productions have been nominated in the 22nd Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards competition.
"The Mecklenburgers" received two nominations in the "informational/instructional" category. "Recycle This" showcases how Mecklenburg County recycles trash and yard waste. The episode "Slap Me Silly" delves into the "mosquito jungle" with the County's mosquito and pest management expert.
"The Mecklenburgers" focuses on government programs and services and presents information in an entertaining way. The programs nominated aired during the third season of the show, the most honored to date, with 11 national Telly Awards. "The Mecklenburgers" airs Sundays at 6 p.m. on WAXN-TV, Action 64 (Time-Warner cable channel 10). It's a 30-minute "infotainment" show intended to educate viewers about programs and services provided by Mecklenburg County government. "Through My Eyes" received two Emmy nominations, one each in the "Children's Programming" and "Editor/Program (non-news)" categories.
"Through My Eyes" is a documentary film produced in a partnership among Mecklenburg County's Area Mental Health Authority, the Health Department and many other agencies. It is intended to educate teens about mental health issues. "Through My Eyes" aired on WTVI, was screened at panel discussions and is used as an educational tool. "Through My Eyes" features Mecklenburg County teens and their families sharing their own emotional and mental health challenges, and how they are able to draw on their successes to overcome these challenges. The film also aims to stamp out stigma, raise awareness and improve community-wide support for youth who struggle with various challenges. For more information: http://meckcares.charmeck.org.
Award winners will be announced January 26 by the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). More than 700 entries resulted in nominations from 58 stations and companies in 70 categories.
