Charlotte, NC - In honor of National Mental Health Awareness Week, Mecklenburg County's Area Mental Health Authority is hosting its second annual Consumer Conference on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, entitled, "Who Ya Gonna Call?" The conference will be held at the Charlotte Merchandise Mart from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Freedom Hall.
Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Disability consumers will attend to learn more about community supports and interventions aimed at preventing a crisis. Speakers will discuss the warning signs of an impending crisis, and what to do and whom to contact in the event of a crisis. Consumers will learn the characteristics of what makes a good crisis plan including natural supports in the community, involved and informed family members, and an active treatment team to help move consumers toward wellness and independence. Lunch will be provided, and consumers will be able to walk away with a viable crisis plan that may be put into action at a moment's notice.
Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health Authority (AMHA) is working to create a community system that empowers and supports individuals to lead healthy and independent lives. AMHA's focus is on managing services for those most in need and those with limited financial resources, rather than providing services.
Mecklenburg County residents may call the AMHA call center, MeckLINK, at 704-336-6404 for help with mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability issues.
