Maury

Hi Everyone -

My name is Maury, but you might remember me as Apache.  I was adopted in February 2008.  My parents met me at an adoption fair at South Park Mall – and they fell in love with me right away.  But, my mom and dad decided to go home and think about it for the night (adopting a dog is a big responsibility, you know!).  And, guess what, I got adopted by someone else!  As you can imagine, my mom and dad were very sad.

They were even looking for me the next day at Freedom Park – hoping my adopted parents brought me there to play.  Well, you can imagine their surprise when I showed up on the CharMeck Adoption website again a few days later.  My mom said that it was a sign – and they came and got me right away. They didn't even care that my previous adopters said I was "excitable".  They knew I was just a puppy and was in need of a little training and a lot of TLC.

Well, that's exactly what I got.  And let me tell you, my mom and dad think I am the best dog ever.  I love to go on long walks and runs, wrestle with my friends at the park, and play tug-of-war with my dad. I also love chasing squirrels and rabbits.  I know I would have caught one by now if my dad would just let me… I am also really good at tearing up my toys (even the ones that claim that they are indestructible), but I never ever chew on anything I'm not supposed to.  I even graduated from intermediate obedience classes - and my parents want to sign me up for agility training, too!  They say that I am very smart – and think it will be good parent-son bonding time.  Oh, did I mention that my parents moved to Chicago last summer? I wasn't so sure if I'd like the cold weather, but I love it.  I do have to wear a jacket if the temperature is below zero.  But, a lot of my doggie friends wear them, too, so it's ok!

My parents also saved my cousin Savanna from an animal control shelter in Illinois.  My mom saw her on a pet adoption website – and she looked just like me.  My mom and dad knew they couldn't leave my "twin" at a kill-shelter – and luckily, my uncle said he would take her.  Now, Savanna lives on a farm with my uncle in Ohio – and she is a very happy girl!  And, I love going to visit her whenever I can!

Maury and Savannah. Which one is which?

I am just so lucky to have met my parents at the mall that day (dad says all of mom's favorite things are from the mall!) – and they say that they are even luckier to have met me!  We are one happy family, that's for sure!

Thank you so much for caring for me last year – and for taking me to that adoption fair with you.   I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you do for guys like me…  Oh, and my parents say thank you, too!

Love, Maury Apache Luvtachewsky Bales
