Caught by surprise, again! Even when caught off guard, Amy can’t hide her good looks from the camera. This gray-and-white kitty is a friendly little thing who wants to find a home where she can get her head scratched and her back rubbed. That’s not too much to ask, is it? You can find Amy at the shelter waiting for you.

Name: Duncan Number: A740469 Breed: Airedale/Bassett Hound mix Color: Tan/White Age: 2-3 years Sex: Neutered Male Weight: 44 pounds
Other than being blind, Duncan is healthy and ready for a forever home. He has been examined by vet specialists in Charlotte and Greensboro and diagnosed with PRA (progressive, retinal atrophy). This is hereditary and irreversible. He has adapted very well.

Duncan memorized the layout of his foster mom's house in a matter of hours and goes on his daily walks with a lot of confidence. When out in the backyard, the sound of her voice lets him know where the back door is. She initially fostered him in January because he tested heartworm positive, but he is now clear of those critters. He is micro-chipped, up-to-date on all shots, neutered and on a monthly heartworm preventative.
His foster mom took him into Petsmart to get his nails trimmed and he did very well meeting other dogs in the store. He was startled by the automatic doors because the sound of the doors was new to him. His body stiffens at noises he does not understand, and he may sometimes give a "woof" but quiets down with reassurance. He is very friendly with children coming up to pet him on the street, but she always cautions them to talk to him so he knows they are there.
There is a child restriction on Duncan because he could unintentionally knock over a toddler. He is very short and squat but solid, weighing 44 lbs. Duncan is very smart and will not attempt to follow his foster mom up the long flight of stairs at night when she goes to bed. He just hops on the couch or his dog bed and that is where she finds him the next morning. She has four cats and a large 75lb. labradoodle, and he gets along with the pack. He likes going for rides in the car but because of his short, stubby legs she usually has to lift him into the car and he settles down quickly. He really enjoys going for walks. Duncan does bark at unexpected noises such as the doorbell chiming but stops when corrected. A fenced-in yard would be nice for quick potty breaks and to allow him to indulge in his much loved daily sunbathing.
