Municipal Airport operated by the City of Charlotte.
Charlotte Municipal Airport, completed in 1936, it was a modern and spacious airport equipped with a radio beam. |

1941 Army Air Force takes control of the airport and establishes Morris Field Air Base.
1950 United Airlines begins regularly scheduled passenger service.

1962 Eastern Airlines begins the region's first regularly scheduled jet service.

1978 Deregulation of the airline industry.
Flying Tigers begins scheduled international cargo flight to Zurich, Switzerland.
1981 Airport renamed Charlotte Douglas International Airport. |

1985 American Airlines, People Express and TWA begin service.
