Water Supply and Treatment
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department (CMUD) provides safe, clean water to more than 805,242 customers in Mecklenburg County homes, schools, and businesses each day. Our drinking water is pumped from the Catawba River -- either at Mountain Island Lake or Lake Norman -- to one of three treatment plants where the water is cleaned, tested, and pumped into the distribution system.

Our plants treat and deliver roughly 99 million gallons of water on an average day.

Certified water treatment operators and lab staff perform more than 150,000 water quality tests each year to ensure the water delivered to you is of the highest quality.
