Crime and Public Safety projects are aimed to reduce crime and increase feelings of safety in the neighborhood. 

Organizations interested in Crime & Public Safety grants are required to have the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) perform a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Study. A Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Study evaluates the proper design and effective use of the built environment, which can lead to a reduction in the incidence of crime, and to improvement in the quality of life.  The three elements are Territoriality, Surveillance, and Access Control. When used together, these elements strengthen total premise security and personal safety.
