The Office of the Mayor offers internships to area students throughout the year during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.

Internships are open to college students currently enrolled at four-year institutions or community colleges. A minimum of one year of experience in a professional working environment is strongly preferred. Interns will be required to commit to working 10-20 hours per week during the session for which they apply.
The primary work location is the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Mayoral interns assist the Office of the Mayor with daily operations and special projects. This will include scheduling, incoming and outgoing correspondence, assisting in the resolution of constituent service requests, attending meetings and outside events with the Mayor, and assisting with follow-up items resulting from those meetings. In addition, special projects will require writing and research on the Mayor’s policy initiatives. Attendance at City Council and other official City meetings may also be required. Hours will be based on the student’s academic and work schedule. While the Office of the Mayor appreciates the commitment of those that participate in the program, the student’s academic responsibilities should always take priority over office duties.
All Mayoral interns are also required to design and complete a service project during the course of their internship.
Internships in the Office of the Mayor are unpaid. The Office encourages applicants to check with their college or university to determine whether the internship may qualify for course credit. If so, the Office of the Mayor will be happy to submit any forms or evaluations required by the school. However, it remains the responsibility of the intern to verify whether course credit is available and to comply with all necessary college or university requirements.
The Mayoral Intern Program uses a competitive selection process. In order to be considered, applicants must submit a resume and cover letter, including hours available to work, via e-mail.
