The Charlotte Fire Department employs over 1,100 men and women, of which more than 90% are employed within the Operations Division.  Our hiring needs vary from year to year, however it is our goal to continually seek out highly qualified and diverse candidates to join our world class organization.

2013 Firefighter Hiring Process

Firefighter Application Period:     CLOSED
Written Entrance Exam:                  CLOSED
CPAT Orientation:                             CLOSED
CPAT Timed Run:                               CLOSED
CPAT Final Run:                                  May 13th 

 

 

Registration for the CPAT sessions is now closed. Please note, exact appointment dates and times for each event were automatically assigned to you. There will not be any reschedules unless there is a military conflict. If you have any questions please email cfdrecruitment@charlottenc.gov .

 

 

Firefighter Eligibility Requirements:
(must be met as of test date)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Honorable discharge, if any, from the military
  • Must meet the medical requirements set 
    forth in NFPA 1582

Firefighter Applicant Disqualifiers:

  • Anything other than a honorable discharge from the military
  • Admission and/or conviction of a felony offense
  • Admission and/or conviction of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude
  • Illegal drug use within 12 months of the written test date
  • Pattern of illegal drug use
  • Pattern of theft
  • Six or more points for moving violation on driver record within the last three years
  • DUI/DWI conviction within the last five years
