Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program: Funds

 Total Federal Funding: $2 billion
 Estimated N.C. Funding: $56.3 million
 Estimated Local Funding: $4.27 million of which 25% goes to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office
 Administering Agency: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department

 Overview: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program funds can be used for a variety of improvements to the criminal justice system including:
  • personnel
  • equipment
  • overtime
  • technology
  • prevention programs
  • prosecution and court programs.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) plans to use the funds for a number of projects including police officer overtime, development of electronic case papering system, youth programs and equipment for police vehicles.
 Eligibility: States and local governments are eligible for funding under a formula which factors in population and violent crime.
 Local Funding Availability: Grant funding has not yet been awarded.
