| Overview: |
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program funds programs that improve the capacity of state and local justice systems. Program funded initiatives in eight areas which include:
- data-driven approaches to reduce violent crime
- neighborhood-based probation and parole officers
- reducing mortgage fraud and crime related to vacant properties
- hiring civilian support staff for law enforcement
- enhancing forensic and crime scene investigations
- improving resources and services for crime victims.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) applied for three grants under this program. The first is for $971,540 and targets violent chronic offenders in three police divisions and to test the community prosecution concept in Charlotte. The second is for $483,677 to hire four additional crime analysts to support neighborhood crime reduction. The third is for $481,544 to hire three additional positions for the Crime Lab. |

National, regional, state and local public and private entities, including for profit and non-profit organizations, faith-based and community organizations, institutions of higher education and units of local government. For-profit organizations must agree to waive any profit or fees for service. |
