Pit Pass II
Adoption Campaign made possible by the
Petco Foundation

This campaign promotes the adoption of Pit Bull and Pit Bull mixes who are one of the two most at-risk animals in the shelter. Often we find that a lot of the Pit Bulls entering our shelter are heartworm positive. This year, thanks to grant funding, we are able to bring back the Pit Pass! When you adopt a Pit Bull or Pit mix, you get a free leash and collar set, a kong, and we pay for the heartworm treatments. No out of pocket heartworm medical costs to you. Once treatment is complete, the adoption fee is FREE*!
Look for the Pit Pass II rescue status and the stickers on their kennel cards at the shelter.

Smitten for Kittens
Adoption Campaign made possible by the
George D. Patterson Family Fund
Foundation for the Carolinas

This campaign promotes the adoption of felines, who make up the other most at-risk animal in the shelter.  Each year the shelter becomes inundated with felines from April until mid-Summer and then again in the Fall. We literally find ourselves busting at the seams with kittens. This year, thanks to grant funding, we are able to offer FREE* feline adoptions!

Our VIPs are Very Important Pets for a Very Impressive Price! These wonderful pets may have been with us a while and keep getting over looked, or they are just a bit more matured and settled, or we simply have too many of the same color and breed. The VIP status helps to show off the great pets that are looking for some extra attention. These specially marked pets are FREE* to adopt! Look for the VIP rescue status and the stickers on their kennel cards at the shelter.

Our Foster to Adopt program sponsors the pets that are Heartworm Positive. The adopter can fill out a foster application and meet with our Foster Coordinators with the option of taking the pet home immediately under foster care. The program will pay for all heartworm medication while in foster care and when the heartworm treatments are complete, the foster owner will adopt that pet for FREE*! Adopters are also welcome to adopt a Heartworm Positive pet with the VIP FREE* price and seek out treatment from their own veterinarian. Look for the Foster to Adopt rescue status and the stickers on their kennel cards at the shelter.

*Adoption prices are waived except for the mandatory $10 Char-Meck pet license fee that must be paid at the time of adoption for pets 4 months and older. For adopters that live outside of the county, you do not have to pay this fee so the adoption is completely free.

  3. If there are animals at home, please bring their current rabies certificates with you. If your need a pet license then please also bring their proof of spay/neuter form with you; this way, your pet license will be $10 instead of $30.
  4. Payments can be made with cash or local checks and MasterCard or Visa. No debit card transactions are possible.
  5. Adopting a cat? Don't forget to bring a cat carrier with you! If you're planning to adopt two, bring two carriers. Animal to animal interactions:
We allow and highly recommend that any current dogs you have come to the shelter to meet your next potential family member. Please bring your pet's rabies certificate with you. We cannot accept rabies tags as proof.
Due to safety reasons we cannot allow dog on cat or cat on cat interactions.
