Officials break ground on new Steele Creek Division site

Community members and city officials met Wednesday morning to break ground on the future site of the CMPD’s new Steele Creek Division.  The division will be constructed at the intersection of Westinghouse Blvd and S. Tryon Street.

The new location will be a welcomed site to the heavily traveled intersection and is in keeping with Police Chief Rodney Monroe’s philosophy to move divisions into highly visible and populated areas. The new division will boast 12,484 square feet to accommodate the more than 100 officers who will work the Steele Creek Division.

The targeted grand opening of the building is scheduled for the fall 0f 2012. RT

Metro Division Crime Prevention Event
The CMPD Metro Division is having a Crime Prevention event at the Value Village (2937 Freedom Drive) from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on September 9, 2011.

This event's purpose is to combat Larcenies From Auto, which have been on the rise in the past few months.  Our objective is to inform the community through crime prevention materials (stickers, pencils and pamphlets) to remind them not to leave valuables in a vehicle in plain view.  The goal of the initiative is to reduce the number of LFAs in the Metro Division.  Coca-Cola will help bring attention to the event by using a promotional "Coke Van" that will play music and hand out some sample products.  RF
